So, the Summer has finally arrived and with it come holiday dreams of quiet relaxation or wild adventure. Nothing can replace the thrill of exploring a new country and culture but this year travelling isn’t quite so simple. Filling the senses with new sights, sounds and smells is something many of us look forward to all year and luckily, even if your holiday plans have been put on hold for a while, there are still many ways to ‘travel’… even from the comfort of your own home.

One of the things everybody loves when they travel is the chance to taste exotic local dishes. Why not try cooking your own versions of Italian pasta, Spanish paella or Mexican tacos? Put some traditional music on in the background while you’re eating and it will feel as if you really are in your dream destination.

If you prefer city visits filled with art and culture you’re in luck this year. Some of the world’s most famous galleries and museums are offering virtual tours that let you wander around their collections.  Admire New York’s Guggenheim museum and the treasures of the Louvre in Paris all from your sofa, at the touch of a screen or the click of a mouse.  You can also visit many of the most famous UNESCO sites, like Stonehenge, Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal, or  go on a virtual trek in the Himalayas or the Amazon with Google Maps.

But if you prefer a more classic approach, dive into a far away land through the pages of a novel. Visit deepest Africa with Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, India with Rudyard Kipling’s Kim or lose yourself in the magical world of Arabia with Tales from the Thousand and one Nights. There are endless books set all around the world, allowing you to travel, with your imagination and go anywhere you want.

Enjoy the journey wherever you decide to go!
