When you are kind to someone you do something that will help them and make them feel happy without expecting anything in return. In her diary, fourteen year old Anne Frank wrote, ‘You can always give something, even if it is only kindness’ and American author Mark Twain apparently once described kindness as a universal language: ‘It’s the language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.’

Everyone feels good when someone acts kindly towards them and World Kindness Day is a great day to do make someone smile and feel good. It is celebrated every year on 13th November and was first launched in 1998 by a group of organisations around the world. There are 28 nations now involved in the World Kindness Movement and their aim is to create a nicer world by inspiring others to be kind.

With so much going on in our lives, work, stress, pressure and responsibilities, we can easily forget to slow down and reflect on what really matters. People are increasingly isolated from each other and relationships are often limited to social media with emojis, selfies and ‘likes’ taking the place of real interaction. In this difficult moment of history many people feel more alone than ever before. A small act of kindness can make everyone feel more loved.

Acts of random kindness are contagious and inspire others to do something kind too. Be part of that chain and be kind to someone…

P.S. You don’t have to wait for 13th November either!
